WGR is an interactive photobook telling the stories of the young second generation Chinese people living in Italy - specifically in the urban area between Prato and Florence, where one of the largest Chinese communities in the entire country has lived for more than 20 years.
During the making of WGR (short for Wài Gùo Rèn, the Chinese word for foreigner) photojournalist Agnese Morganti and Journalism graduate Malia Zheng worked side by side to explore the new Italian multicultural generation through the language of multimedia where video, stills, audio interviews and text create lively reports told in first - person by the protagonists themselves.
The pressing issues of integration and citizenship and the heated debate on cultural identity get tangled up into chronicles of daily life, discoveries of unexpected passions and very personal accounts of identities in transition between China and Italy.
WGR is a collaboration with the team behind the professional photography magazine for the iPad JPM Magazine.
